If you’re searching for a Sutherland Shire family photographer, you’re probably looking for more than just someone with a camera. You want someone who understands this season of life, the in-between moments and how to capture it naturally.
Whether you’ve already booked your family photography session in the Sutherland Shire or you’re still deciding, here’s everything you need to know before we step onto the sand together.
My goal is simple: to make this feel easy, relaxed, and genuinely enjoyable.
When should I book a session?
When it feels right for your family. I only take on a limited number of sessions each month to ensure every family receives my full attention. Which means I have a lot of flexibility with my calendar.
Where do you do your outdoor sessions?
As a local Sutherland Shire family photographer, I’ve spent years learning how the light moves across our coastline. When you book a session with me, you don’t need to think about logistics because I've already done it for you.
My favourite locations include:
Cronulla – calm water, soft sand, lots of coastal rock and beautiful sunsets across beaches.
Kurnell – quiet, open, and the perfect mix of open water, sand and coastline fauna.
These locations aren’t chosen randomly. I know how they photograph throughout the year, where the sun sets at each location, and how to position your family for the most flattering, natural light.
They also have access to restrooms, don't require any sort of hike and have parking and public transport nearby.
Why are sessions always done during sunset?
Most of my outdoor sessions are done during golden hour (the hour leading up to sunset).
I schedule outdoor sessions at golden hour because the light is softer, directional and very flattering. Earlier in the day, the sun sits high and creates harsh shadows and can make people squint. At sunset, the light becomes diffused and golden, which creates natural contrast, warmth, and an atmosphere that translates beautifully in photographs. The light truly makes all the difference.
If your children's dinner, bath and bedtime routine is a concern, autumn and winter are great for earlier sunset sessions. I also offer mid morning ones too.
How long does a family photography session take?
Most sessions run for 1 to 1.5 hours. Newborns are closer to the 2 hour mark.
A photography session with me shouldn't feel rushed. If we go over the hour, its no big deal and I don't charge additional fees.
What if my kids don’t cooperate?
They don’t need to. I don’t expect children to sit still or smile on command. My sessions are relaxed and child-led. We walk, play, cuddle, and let natural connection unfold. Your only job is to be present with your family. I’ll take care of the rest.
Can we include our dog in the session?
Absolutely. Your pets are part of your family story. Years from now, you’ll be grateful they were included.
Do you have a studio and client closet?
I don't offer studio sessions as I love being outdoors in our beautiful shire. I have a maternity wardrobe available but I've found it gets used less these days as mums just prefer to pick their own outfits/gowns.
What should we wear for our family photos?
After booking, you’ll receive my style guide with tips and suggestions. I recommend neutral, earthy tones that complement the natural surroundings and create timeless images that won’t date.

What happens if the weather is bad?
If the weather isn’t suitable, we simply reschedule. Beautiful light matters and I’ll always prioritise that for your gallery.
